Police investigating after man approaches boy walking from Metro-East school

 

 

 

(KMOV)-- Police are warning parents after a child was approached by a man in Granite City.

The parent reported to police that his son was walking home from Mitchell Elementary School around 3:00 p.m. on Lennox Avenue. While walking, the child was approached by a man driving a truck. The man asked the child. "Do you want a ride home?" The child told the man "No," and continued walking. The man continued driving north on Lennox Avenue.

The man was described as a white male in his late 50's or early 60's. He is head is bald on top with hair on sides and back (medium length). He was wearing a white t-shirt. He was driving a black 2004-2008 Dodge Ram Pickup with 4 doors.

Authorities said the child has never seen this vehicle, or the man, in the neighborhood before.

Police contacted school officials and increased patrols around the school and surrounding neighborhoods.

Police are searching for the suspect and vehicle the child described.
