(KMOV) -- Three people were critically injured in accident on Interstate 270 in Madison County.
This happened around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday near Route 157 in Glen Carbon, Illinois.
Illinois State Police say that a man in a Chrysler Sebring was driving westbound on I-270 and was trying to pass another vehicle when he lost control of his car, crashed through the median cables and into oncoming eastbound traffic. His vehicle struck a Chevy Camaro head-on, causing major damage to that vehicle. The Camaro spun around and struck a Pontiac Grand Prix.
Three passengers in the Camaro were injured. The victims include a nine-year-old girl, a 15-year-old boy and a 24-year-old woman. All three passengers were airlifted to local hospitals and are listed in critical condition. The driver of the Camaro was not injured and the driver of the Grand Prix suffered minor injuries.
The driver of the Sebring was ticketed for improper lane usage and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
