(KMOV)-- The U.S. Census Bureau is spending $85 million on two mailers. One to let you know the census is coming and another to let you know the census form was sent.
News 4 was told 120 million of these letters were sent out at a cost of 44 cents a piece, that's more than $50 million of taxpayer money.
The first line in the letter says it all: About one week from now you will receive a 2010 census form in the mail. The letter is signed by Robert Groves, the director of the U.S. Census Bureau.
According to the bureau, the letter will increase participation in the census by 6 to 12%.
Most people News 4 spoke with said they will probably throw it away. Tell us: Do you think this is a good use of taxpayer money? Take our poll on the right hand side!!
