CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Demetri McCamey blew past the fast food stops this past summer, just like he plans to go around defenders this season.
Illinois' talented junior guard and basketball coach Bruce Weber had a chat last spring. They decided that McCamey and the team would benefit greatly if he could shed about 20 pounds.
McCamey says he didn't argue because he's "always been pretty heavy."
The treadmill became his friend, and he avoided the fried foods for pasta and baked chicken. Off came the weight.
Now it's time to see if the slimmer McCamey can help the Illini run off wins.
The Illini hope to improve on last year's 24-10 mark that saw them make the NCAA tournament but lose to Western Kentucky in the first round.
Illinois faces Missouri Southern at Assembly Hall tomorrow night.
