Colorado sophomore quarterback Tyler Hansen was supposed to redshirt last season, his first on campus. His redshirt was pulled, though, and he started two games, the Buffaloes' 58-0 loss at Missouri and a 28-24 win against Iowa State. Sophomore Cody Hawkins retook the starting duties from Hansen later that season.
The plan became to redshirt Hansen this season, making Hawkins the starter again. It didn't work out. The team started 1-3 with Hawkins throwing his 10th interception of the season in the team's fifth game at Texas. The plan to redshirt Hansen was scrapped again when he was brought in early in the third quarter to finish the game against the Longhorns and completed three passes for 17 yards. He was given the opportunity to start the next game.
