Thefts anger Christmas Wonderland volunteers

ALTON - Theft of two large batches of electrical wire on consecutive days last weekend is putting this year's Christmas Wonderland at risk and dampening the enthusiasm of the volunteers working to get the event ready for its Nov. 27 debut.

"I've got a couple of guys pretty upset about it," said Bob Osburn, the head of the Grandpa Gang, which puts up the display every year at Rock Spring Park, 2116 College Ave.

Osburn also is unhappy with the Alton Police Department, which pledged to keep an eye on the site after members reported the theft of 2,000 feet of electrical wire on Saturday.
