CHICAGO (AP) -- Judy Baar Topinka has announced she is running for the Republican nomination to become Illinois comptroller.
The 65-year-old Topinka addressed supporters Sunday at a Chicago restaurant, saying she "can't stand to watch this mismanagement go on." She also says "it's time to put an end to the bookkeeping games and gimmicks that are destroying the state."
Topinka has served as state treasurer and lost a 2006 run for governor against ousted former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich. She also has served on the board of the Regional Transportation Authority.
Topinka faces two other Republican contenders in the February primary. Current Illinois comptroller, Democrat Dan Hynes, is running for governor.
