SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Three Illinois newspapers say they have filed a lawsuit against Logan County officials seeking search warrants and other documents, some pertaining to the deaths of five family members in the town of Beason.
The newspapers, The State Journal-Register of Springfield, the Bloomington Pantagraph and the Decatur Herald-Review, filed the lawsuit Friday in Logan County Circuit Court. They say officials in Logan County have illegally withheld the paperwork.
Two men are charged in the September deaths of Raymond Gee, his wife, Ruth, and three of their children.
Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan's office, which is assisting prosecutors in the Gee case, says it's not unusual for warrants to be kept from the public because of the extraordinary nature of the case.
