Secondary loses Hardeman to neck injury

Adding injury to the insult of Saturday's 27-14 loss to Indiana for the Illinois football team was the loss of starting safety Donsay Hardeman, who was carted off the field with 8:20 remaining in the second quarter with an apparent neck injury.

A hush fell over Indiana's Memorial Stadium as Hardeman lay motionless on the Illinois 20-yard line after trying to make a tackle. The game was delayed for 10 minutes as the entire Illinois team came out on to the field in concern over their fallen teammate.

"They've done a couple tests and everything so far has come back negative, which is good," coach Ron Zook said after the game. "The big thing is he had some numbness in his arm, and with his previous situation, it was more of a precautionary thing."
