(KMOV) -- According to the school district, a 17-year-old student was shot outside Sumner High School 45 minutes after school let out for the day.
This happened around 3 p.m. Monday in the 4200 block of Cottage in north St. Louis.
Police told News 4 that the student ran inside the school seeking help after being shot.
According to the St. Louis fire department, the student was transported to Children's Hospital.
The school told News 4 the student's injuries are non-life threatening. He was shot in the upper buttocks area. The school also told News 4 that personnel inside, including a security officer heard the shooting ran outside and helped the injured student.
Police have not released much information at the scene. No suspects are in custody.
The district plans to restrict traffic in front of the school starting Tuesday. Parents are receiving phone calls about the incident.
