Former alderman pleads guilty to mail fraud

O'FALLON, Ill. (AP) -- Authorities say a former O'Fallon alderman has pleaded guilty to a felony count of mail fraud.

Former Ward 7 Alderman Thomas M. Faulkner entered the plea Friday in federal court in St. Louis.

In addition to his plea, Faulkner paid $100,000 as the first installment of restitution to his former employer, Nestle Purina Petcare.

He was accused of stealing about $229,000 from the company by filing fraudulent expense invoices to cover personal trips to Walt Disney World and college football games paid for with his company American Express Card.
