EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- A southwestern Illinois judge has found a man guilty of charges related to the beating and rape of a woman in a state park last year.
Associate Judge Kyle Napp convicted 31-year-old Keith Recklein of rural Granite City of aggravated battery and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault. Recklein last month waived his right to a jury trial.
Authorities say Recklein was at a bar in May 2008 when he used another person's cell phone to call the 22-year-old O'Fallon woman and tell her the phone's owner was drunk and needed help.
Prosecutors say the woman and the caller agreed to meet at Horseshoe Lake State Park near Pontoon Beach, where the attack took place. Park workers found her the next day.
No sentencing date was immediately set.
