Flu shuts down 4 Jefferson County schools

(KMOV) -- Jefferson County R-VII School District has cancelled school for the remainder of week due to the spread of the flu.

Plattin Primary, Telegraph Intermediate, Danby-Rush Tower Middle and Jefferson High School will remain closed until October 20.

There are about 160 students sick out of 760 total. With those numbers, parents with kids in the R-VII district got calls on Monday afternoon saying don't bring your kids back for the rest of the week.

?The district posted this on their website:

"Since next Monday is a work day for staff, students will resume school on Tuesday, October 20, 2009.? We ask that when school resumes that parents make sure that their children do not come to school sick with low grade fevers or while taking Tylenol or Ibuprofen.? Please keep children at home until they are fever free without medications for a full 24 hours."

The school doesn't know of any kids seriously ill or hospitalized because of the flu.

As for the missed days they'll be treated as snow days, taken out of the spring break vacation.
