It has been three years since Illinois and Michigan State last squared off, but it was a matchup that players remember well.
"I still remember the plane ride up there," senior guard Jon Asamoah said of Illinois' trip to Michigan State in 2006. "The older guys like Matt Maddox and Martin O'Donnell were telling me about how they had never won a road game, and as a freshman, I was just thinking, 'Man, that's nuts."
The Illini went into East Lansing, Mich., as a 26-point underdog, not having won a game away from Champaign in 46 months. But led by a breakout performance from inexperienced freshman quarterback Juice Williams, the Illini ruined Michigan State's homecoming with a 23-20 upset.
