East St. Louis mayor cancels 1 a.m. liquor ban

EAST ST. LOUIS (KMOV)-- Bars, night clubs and liquor stores in East St. Louis can once again sell alcohol well into the early morning hours.

?

Earlier this week, the mayor ordered sales cut off at 1 a.m. following two shootings. Now the old rules are in effect, which were originally adopted in 2007. Seven days a week all stores selling liquor can remain open until 3 a.m. night clubs can stay open until 6 a.m.

?

There is one change. The mayor is asking businesses to be more strict about letting customers loiter, drink and panhandle in parking lots.

?

The city council could also increase taxes. Members of the city council could vote on those taxes Thursday night.
