East St. Louis mayor bans alcohol sales after 1 a.m.

(KMOV)-- Two killings at nightclubs in East St. Louis means some changes are in store for the city's nightlife.

?

Bars in East St. Louis will now close an hour earlier effective immediately.

???????????

Both shootings happened overnight Friday, one at Club 2151 and the other at The City Lights night club.

???????????

Because of that Mayor Alvin Parks has ordered all businesses that sell alcohol to stop sales at one in the morning.

???????????

Until that decree East St. Louis bars had been allowed to stay open until 2 a.m.

?

Until recently, some bars in East St. Louis had been allowed to stay open until 6 a.m.

???????????

That changed back in March when the city put in a mandatory 2 a.m. closing time.

???????????

There is a mandatory meeting this Wednesday for all East St. Louis businesses that sell alcohol.
