(KMOV)-- A puppy is recovering now after St. Louis firefighters rescued her from the icy O’Fallon Park Lake Thursday morning.
The Humane Society of Missouri (HSMO) says the puppy was close to death when a rescue squad crawled out onto ice covering the lake and grabbed the nine-month-old Labrador Retriever mix.
She was immediately taken for treatment to the HSMO headquarters on Macklind in south city.
Upon arrival, the dog’s temperature came in below 90 degrees; normal body temperature for a dog is 101.5 degrees.
Within minutes, her body temperature rose above 90, and the puppy was standing and alert after an hour.
The Humane Society is now looking for the dog’s owner and asks anyone with information about the owner to call the HSMO Animal Abuse Hotline at 314-647-4400.
