Uplands Park police call expired license plates tag arrest misunderstanding

(KMOV) – A man who was arrested by the Uplands Park Police Department last week for having expired license plates tags recently learned that the city calling this all a misunderstanding.

The police chief is reportedly recommending that Gilbert Kiesler’s case gets dismissed, and that he receives his bond money back minus court fees.

But Kiesler is still steaming from the experience. It landed him a couple of hours in jail, he had to post bond and pay $240 to get his Toyota back, all because of expired tags.

Uplands Park Attorney Doug Rudman says the village is reviewing the case, and that it is not standard practice to arrest people for expired tags. He also says the arresting officer misunderstood orders given by the police chief in this case.

However, Kiesler says the village isn’t doing enough to fix its mistake. He says he has lost faith in the Uplands Park Police Department.
