(KMOV) – Police say a woman could face charges after she confessed to lying about being carjacked Monday night in Highland, Illinois and driven all the way across the Metro area to Fenton.
The 52-year-old woman originally claimed an older man, with a weapon, opened her passenger door and got in, while she was stopped at a stop sign at Troxley Avenue and Route 143 in Highland. She said the man told her if she didn’t drive him, he would hurt her.
The woman claimed she followed the suspect’s orders and was able to escape in Fenton.
Police say they were led on a “wild goose chase” for several hours, looking for a man that never existed.
