(KMOV)-- Authorities are looking into a St. Clair County car crash that left one dead overnight.

It happened Friday around 11:30 at St. Clair Avenue and N. 70th Street.

Police say Barry Tobin, 18, was driving on St. Clair at a high rate of speed when he lost control, and crossed over the center turn lane.

He then struck another driver, Sean Rose, 33, head on.

The crash also caused Tobin’s engine block to detach from his Dodge Neon, which struck a third driver.

Rose’s vehicle caught fire from the collision; the coroner pronounced him dead at the scene.

The passenger riding with Tobin was ejected from the car and suffered serious injuries.

The others, including Tobin, left with minor injuries or none at all.

Officials report alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
