CAIRO, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois State Police say a police officer in the far southern Illinois town of Cairo (KAYR'-oh) was responding to a chase when his patrol cruiser slammed into a car, injuring three of its occupants.
Investigators say the patrolman was headed to assist Pulaski County authorities with a pursuit on Interstate 57 on Sunday morning when his car slammed into a Toyota Camry at Illinois Route 3 and U.S. 51.
Two of the occupants of that car were taken to hospitals. A third passenger later sought treatment in Paducah, Ky.
The officer was taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
Investigators say the chase reached speeds of 120 mph through a construction zone before the suspect's car hit a tree, and he was arrested.
