CHICAGO (AP) -- Funeral services for former Chicago Cubs third baseman and broadcaster Ron Santo has been set for next week at Holy Name Cathedral.
Santo died late Thursday in an Arizona hospital from complications of bladder cancer.
A nine-time all-star in his 15-year career, Santo is widely regarded as one of the best players never to gain induction into baseball's Hall of Fame. He was diagnosed with diabetes when he was 18 and later lost both legs to the disease.
According to the Cubs, public visitation will get underway at 4 p.m. Thursday at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago. The funeral mass will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Santo's memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation -- Illinois chapter.
