(KMOV) – A standoff that lasted through most of the night came to an end early Friday morning.

It started just before midnight at Spring and Keokuk in south St. Louis when police received a call stating that a 20-year-old woman was being held in an apartment against her will.

Police tried to negotiate with a 60-year-old suspect, but their attempts didn't work.

A SWAT team eventually entered the apartment. Officers rescued the woman and the suspect was arrested. The standoff came to an end around 3:30 a.m. on Friday.

Investigators say that the suspect and the victim knew each other. The woman told police that the suspect assaulted her and then would not allow her to leave the apartment. Police say the incident was drug-related.

No word yet on any charges in this case.
