(KMOV) – Drivers in Alton, Illinois could face a large fine for talking on their cell phones while driving in a school zone.
Alton police have posted multiple signs, warning drivers not to talk on phones when they are driving in school zones. Some signs are 500 yards away from schools.
Many parents think it is a good idea and that it will help children get to school safely.
Police say they have issued 150 tickets for drivers breaking this law since putting the signs up.
Ticket fines jumped from $75 to $120 in Illinois, earlier this year.
