CHAMPAIGN, Ill.-- Illinois is enjoying itself as a Top 25 NCAA team. In its first game in the national rankings, the No. 25 Fighting Illini defeated Ohio State 67-49 in a Big Ten Conference game at Assembly Hall before 15,549 fans Tuesday night. Illinois (16-3, 4-2 Big Ten) never trailed in the game and the Buckeyes only tied the game two times, both early in the first half at 5-all and 7-all. Mike Tisdale led Illinois with 15 points, and Demetri McCamey (13 points), Dominique Keller (12) and Chester Frazier (10) also recorded double-figure points for the Illini. B.J. Mullens led the Buckeyes (13-4 3-3) with 14 points and William Buford added 13. They were the only two players on Ohio State with more than seven points. With the game tied at 7-all three minutes into the game, Illinois took control of the game with a 14-3 run to take a 21-10 lead. In the second half, Ohio State could not cut the Illini lead to under double-digits. The Fighting Illini face Wisconsin at 3:00 p.m. CT on Jan. 24 at the Assembly Hall before traveling to East Lansing, Michigan on Jan. 29 to play Michigan State.
