(KMOV) -- The reopening of one stretch and the closing of another section of Interstate 64/40 in St. Louis is being considered a great success.
According to officials at MoDOT, this morning's transition was a smooth one.
Around midnight, the completed first phase of the New I-64 Project between I-170 and Ballas Road reopened.
Now, the second phase has begun. All lanes of I-64 between I-170 and Kingshighway are now closed until 2009.
While MoDOT considers this morning's commute a successful one, it may not have been a good gauge. Traffic on most St. Louis roads was lower due to hundreds of school closings.
Traffic was up 15-percent in both directions of Forest Park Parkway.
MoDOT is encouraging drivers who use Forest Park Parkway to find an alternate route.
MoDOT also says that all of this morning's traffic delays were weather related.
