(KMOV) – A 15-year old Florissant boy has been charged as an adult for allegedly robbing several people at gunpoint near downtown St. Louis.
Durrand Jones, 15, faces nine felony charges. Authorities say Jones and a group of others jumped out of a stolen car in two different locations, pointed guns in victim’s faces and demanded their cellphones and money.
The armed robberies happened on March 26, but the investigation is ongoing to find out who else was involved.
Police say the first armed robbery happened in the 1300 block of S. Tucker, when a man was walking on the sidewalk and Jones pointed a gun at the man, taking his cell phone and wallet.
The second armed robbery happened in the 600 block of Chouteau; police said two women were robbed of their purses and cell phones, another victim had no property to give to Jones.
Officials with the Circuit Attorney’s Office said this case is concerning, and what is really concerning is that more young people are being charged with serious crimes. The CAO has had six cases involving juveniles in the last two weeks.
“It is very concerning for the Circuit Attorney’s Office that young people are committing serious crimes, using serious firearms, committing crimes that they potentially could go to prison for the rest of their lives,” said Natalie Warner, Assistant Circuit Attorney.
The armed robberies are still under investigation, and more arrests and charges could be coming.
