Part of a road in Baltimore collapsed onto some adjacent railroad tracks, taking cars with it.
Part of the road along 26th Street collapsed down onto the CSX tracks below. At least ten cars parked along that street have fallen down onto the railroad tracks.
“In Baltimore, Maryland, this afternoon an embankment collapsed onto CSX railroad tracks near 26th and North Charles Streets,” CSX said in a statement. “Train traffic in the area has been stopped. We are working closely with authorities to assess damage, assure public safety and determine next steps and will provide updates.”
Witnesses who saw the collapse say it happened in slow motion. Police and firefighters were on the scene.
Residents say the street has been crumbling and nothing was ever done about it. The unit block of 26th Street was evacuated.
BGE crews were on the scene examining a gas line.
