(KMOV) -- Police all over the St. Louis area will be rolling out sobriety checks this weekend in search of drunk drivers.
Hazelwood police are among many agencies cracking down on drinking and driving this week. In addition to Cinco De Mayo celebrations, police say they are especially focusing on young drivers attending high school proms throughout the region.
Sgt. Tim Burger with the Hazelwood Police Department says he wants people to plan ahead for the weekend.
“Once you start getting fuzzy, you may not think of those things. You may not think, ‘oh I need to call for a ride, I need to have a designated driver,’” said Burger. “So before that do a little planning, make your night special and fun and at the end of the night go home safely.”
Burger says a successful weekend for them would be no alcohol-related arrests or accidents.
Statistics show April and May are the most dangerous time of the year for teens on the roads.
