(KMOV.com) – Civic leaders in St. Louis told News 4 they are concerned that children are getting caught in a rising tide of violence.
The call from civic leaders comes after a 12-year-old girl was killed after being caught in crossfire Sunday. Leaders told News 4 that a simple police crackdown will not solve the problem.
City leaders told News 4 providing kids with something to do will help alleviate the problem, but the St. Louis Public Schools has limited options when it comes to summer school programs.
Officials also said building trust with police is paramount to building a safe community.
