(KMOV.com) – A nationwide effort to keep expired prescriptions out of the wrong hands is taking place throughout St. Louis today.
Police are teaming up with the Drug Enforcement Agency to remove expired or unwanted pills from the community.
More than 100 locations around St. Louis will be accepting any expired, unused and unwanted prescription pills from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Liquids and needles will not be accepted.
In Missouri, the number of drug overdose deaths per capita tripled between 1999 and 2010, ranking Missouri seventh in the country.
