(KMOV.com) – News 4 has learned a new code of conduct has been in place at several Metro East police departments to crack down on corruption.

Police officials from several St. Clair County police departments that have a history of corruption met with State’s Attorney Brendan Kelly Friday to discuss the new policies. The strict policies cover many areas including police pursuits and racial profiling.

“It’s been a series of very bad choices over decades. This is going to take some time for us to be able to turn the corner and improve the situation,” Kelly said.

Officers were given a 500 page manual at the beginning of March, but officials told News 4 it is too early to determine whether the new policies have been effective.
