(KMOV.com) – A depressed neighborhood in the heart of East St. Louis will be getting a $9.5 million facelift.
The development will build 30 single family homes in a neighborhood that is currently full of vacant lots.
Mt. Sinai Baptist Church previously constructed an $8 million development that was completed a few years ago and has 100 percent occupancy near the same area.
Reverend Watson said that they are very strict with renters. He also said they give all renters the option to eventually buy their homes.
The money for the development will come from tax credits and grants from the state of Ill. and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Construction is set to begin on Monday for phase two of Mt. Sinai Village.
