(KMOV) – An early-morning water main break left dozens of homes without water and closed a heavily-traveled south St. Louis road on Thursday.

City officials tell News 4 the 20-inch break happened on Chippewa between 1:30 a.m. and 2 a.m.

About 100 homes were without water at one point and officials say up to 1,000 homes may have extremely low water pressure as two crews worked to fix the break.

Authorities closed Chippewa between Clifton and Watson for several hours. The road was back open by 6 a.m.
