(KMOV.com) -- A two story house went up in flames in south St. Louis Tuesday night and a man who was trapped inside is alive thanks to the quick action of firefighters.

The fire broke out around 8 p.m. in the 4100 block of Ohio.

Crews tell News 4 they arrived on scene to find heavy smoke. They rushed in to find a man unconscious and not breathing upstairs.

Firefighters were able to revive the victim and took him to an area hospital. He is in an unknown condition.

Investigators say the fire started in the kitchen, but they still do not have an official cause.
