Trial begins for Ballwin man charged in fatal hit-and-run wreck

(KMOV.com) – A Ballwin man police say was intoxicated when he caused a 2012 Town and Country wreck that killed a St. Louis woman is scheduled to begin trial Monday.

George Putney, 52, is charged with involuntary manslaughter and leaving the scene for his alleged involvement in the crash that killed 70-year-old Ciby Kimbrough on Jan. 26, 2012.

According to court documents, Putney was driving a GMC Envoy westbound on Clayton Rd. near Woods Mill Rd. when he crossed the centerline and crashed into a Volvo Sedan head the opposite direction.

The driver, Kimbrough, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Putney fled from his SUV on foot after the vehicle stalled on the roadway several hundred yards from the scene. He was later arrested.

Kimbrough is survived by her husband, two sons and seven grandchildren.
