CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. (AP) -- An 8-year-old boy has been run over and injured by a parade float at a holiday event in northeast Illinois.
The accident occurred Friday night at the Festival of Lights Parade in Crystal Lake.
Crystal Lake police released a statement saying the boy had been a participant in the parade and was riding on the local Boy Scouts organization’s float. The vehicle consisted of a flatbed trailer being towed by a truck.
Police say that while attempting to get off, the boy became “entangled with a revolving wheel of the float.”
The boy fell to the street and the wheel rolled over the lower half of his body.
Police say paramedics transported the boy to a hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
No citations were issued.
