(KMOV.com) – The day after Black Friday has come to be known as Small Business Saturday. Many local businesses expect heavy foot traffic from customers looking to save money on deals for the holidays.
Dozens of local store owners are offering discounts and deals throughout the event in an effort to get residents to spend money at local businesses. Local businesses in Maplewood, Kirkwood, the Delmar Loop, South Grand, and more are participating in this year’s event.
Small Business Saturday is a day dedicated to supporting local businesses and keeping money spent in St. Louis. Most local businesses that do participate say that it is one of their biggest money-making days of the year.
Local businesses say that while they cannot compete with the large chain stores, they do offer specialties and hidden gems larger stores do not have.
The event was created by American Express in 2010. For a listing of area stores participating in the event, click here.
