(KMOV) – Police across the St. Louis area are seeing an increase in people committing crimes in order to provide for their families during the holidays.

There have been two cases in particular that have law enforcement in St. Charles County working to learn more about the suspects.

Police say the woman involved in an armed robbery at a Wentzville Walmart demanded money from another female victim and displayed a handgun. She allegedly made off with cash from the victim. Officers say it is very unusual for this type of crime to be attempted by a female and attempted during the day.

A separate armed robbery happened in St. Charles County, where Clarence Zanches Howard allegedly robbed an EZ Pay Loan store.

According to court documents, Howard showed a gun then got away with cash. He has no previous offenses.

"Everybody gets nostalgic around the holidays, they certainly want to provide a new toy for their child or a good meal it's still not a reason to commit crime. Unfortunately good people become victims of bad people in this world and everybody needs to do what they can to protect themselves,” said Chief Lisa Harrison of the Wentzville Police Department.

Police are working leads, trying to find the woman responsible for the robbery in the Walmart parking lot. Police say it’s important to check surroundings when people are out shopping over the holiday weekend; no matter what area of town or time of day it is.
