(KMOV.com) -- Cuts to food stamps are hitting many families at a bad time- just before Thanksgiving.
The cuts began on November 1 and are expected to total $5 billion dollars.
Not long after people began noticing small food stamp allowances, food banks began getting more calls for help.
“In those moments when you’re trying to give thanks and you don’t have anything to give thanks for,” said Gary Wells with Operation Food Search. “That just makes it more difficult.”
The USDA said that a household of four, getting the maximum monthly benefit of $668, would see a cut of $36 per month.
