(KMOV.com) -- A dangerous crime trend is emerging in Jefferson County. According to police, gun thefts are on the rise.
Officers say at least eight guns were taken in four separate burglaries and break-ins over the past week. The types of guns stolen ranged from shotguns to 9 mm handguns.
These break in were in homes and cars, stretching from the Arnold area to Desoto.
The Sheriff’s Department says the burglars also took things like electronics and jewelry but did zero in on the guns.
“Some are hidden in these homes,” said Captain Ron Arnhart. “People are creatures of habit and they tend to hide things in the same places that other people do, so they’re looking in those areas and finding these weapons.”
Investigators here are not sure if this is the work one burglar or a group of suspects.
