(KMOV) – A portion of Interstate 70 on Monday was dedicated to two fallen St. Louis police officers.
The interstate was dedicated to Sgt. Jeffry Kowalski and police officer Darryl Hall during a luncheon at the St. Louis Dream Center at 11 a.m.
Kowalski was shot in the abdomen in February, 1987 while he and his partner were attempting to arrest an armed robbery suspect.
The suspect and two others were arrested and Sgt. Kowalski recovered and returned to duty in September of 1988, when he was promoted to sergeant. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in March, 2008 and died six months later.
Hall was killed after being shot during an off-duty incident. He was 34 at the time.
