(KMOV.com) The FBI will assist St. Louis County police in their investigation into how a former St. Louis County Health Department official was able to steal millions from the county, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Ed Mueth was found dead on September 19, days before a meeting with county officials about a company he created called Gateway Technical.
Gateway Technical received $3.6 million in six years to lease laptops and provide tech support to the county. Authorities are investigating if Mueth used government money for computer support services that were already being paid under another contractor.
The St. Louis Post Dispatch reports the FBI will be tasked with a forensic criminal audit into Mueth’s suspicious transactions, several of which crossed state lines.
The goal of the investigation is to see if anyone assisted Mueth and to make sure it never happens again.
