(KMOV.com) -- Residents gearing up for Thanksgiving travel are being urged to prepare for a tight squeeze.
New data suggests airplane seats are getting smaller while flyers are getting larger.
Travel website Seat Guru ran the numbers, and in the 1960’sthe average airline seat was 17 inches. In the 1970s it was 18 inches.
1990s seats got even larger, coming in a 18.5 inches.
The average seat today is just 16.5 inches, which means more seats per flight, and more revenue for the airlines.
As seats shrunk passengers grew.
The World Health Organization says worldwide obesity has doubled since the 1980s.
