(KMOV) – The mother of a 5-year-old called News 4 after her child wandered from his school on two separate occasions without parental permission.

“When I come there and you don't know where he is how am I supposed to react to that?” said Diadre Hodge.

She said her son, Andrew, was missing for a half hour in the latest incident on Wednesday and the school was clueless as to where he could be.

“If I'm putting him in your hands all day you need to know his whereabouts it’s not okay,” said Hodge.

She said she received wrong information when she went to pick up her son from the Lalumier Elementary School in Cahokia Wednesday afternoon.

Andrew reportedly went missing while under school supervision earlier this year and his mother caught him walking toward home without her permission.

On Wednesday he was found after a 30 minute search, on a bus heading to a nearby daycare where his mom volunteers.

“For them just to say well we don't know where he is and oh we'll call security that's not an answer for me,” said Hodge.

Cahokia School Superintendent Art Ryan told News 4’s Julian Johnson he was unaware of the incident but would try contacting the school’s principal for details. Johnson is still awaiting a call back.

In the meantime, Hodge wants better procedures in place to make sure kids can’t just wander off.

“If you're unsure, why isn't your policy to call the parents, why is your policy just to let them go?” said Hodge.
