Wacha looks for season's first road win against Rays

(BaseballStL) — The Cardinal pitching staff’s scoreless inning streak continues, as they posted their third shutout in a row Tuesday against Tampa Bay.

It was their MLB-leading 13th game in which they blanked the opposition, and they are now just two goose eggs from tying 2013’s total of 15

Tampa Bay has a scoreless streak of their own, as they now have failed to plate a runner in 28 consecutive innings. In a gruesome stretch of baseball, the Rays have gone 1-14 of late, and according to ESPN have set a franchise record by going scoreless in three straight games.

Wacha's Winnless Road

Michael Wacha is on the road once again, and chasing his first win away from home. Improbably, he is 0-4 while traveling despite giving up only 11 earned runs in six games and holding opponents to a .224 batting average.

Some of that is the listless offense the Cards seem to have on the road. Hitting 10 points worse and producing 12 fewer runs (in five more games), St. Louis has left starters in the cold when they aren’t at Busch.

Wacha has yet to allow more than three runs in a start this season, while posting a 4-4 record.

Wainwright Worry

The big story Wednesday was Adam Wainwright’s return to St. Louis for an MRI on his elbow. While GM John Mozeliak told KMOX there was no structural damage to the ligament, but the Cardinal Ace’s next appearance is up in the air.
