ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Chesterfield based Mercy announced Thursday they will layoff 125 employees in the St. Louis area
A statement obtained by News 4 says the layoffs are a result of "the impact of market changes, including reimbursement reductions from government and commercial payers, lack of Medicaid expansion in most states we serve and declining inpatient utilization."
Mercy, which spans seven states, has a total workforce is approximately 40,000.
The statement goes on to say "we are in the process of further reorganizing our support services across all Mercy communities."
Mercy said the cuts will not affect direct patient care areas.
