(KMOV) – Animals in a Chesterfield veterinarian clinic were evacuated after a fire broke out at a neighboring business early Thursday morning.

According to officials, the fire started at St. Louis Cigar in the 14000 block of Olive around 2:30 a.m. Firefighters arrived on scene and were met with heavy smoke before dousing the blaze.

A cat and gerbil were rescued after smoke entered a nearby veternarian clinic. No injuries were reported and both animals were OK.

It was not immediately known what caused the fire or how much damage the building sustained.
