(BaseballStL) - It didn't start well against the Giants for Lance Lynn, giving up three consecutive hits to begin Sunday's game. After throwing a complete game shutout against the Yankees this past week, Lynn allowed 4 runs in the first inning Sunday.

And the game didn't get any better as Lynn complete just 3.1 innings, and the Redbirds gave up 8 runs to the Giants, scoring zero runs.

Buster Posey, who is in the lineup for the Giants for the first time in three games, singled up the middle to give the Giants an early 1-0 lead in the first.

With one out and runners on first and second, Lynn got exactly what he wanted, a ground ball to second base but Kolten Wong couldn't handle it.  The Giants scored another in a fielders choice from Matt Carpenter.

Then after walking another batter, Lynn gave up another single to make it 4-0 in favor if the Giants.

Lynn's afternoon ended at just 3.1 innings, giving up 8 hits and just 3 earned runs of the 6 given up.

Carlos Martinez came in relief, but couldn't get the hold and allowed a hit to left field that scored another run, giving the Giants a 7-0 lead.

Matt Carpenter hit his 14th double of the season in the bottom of the third, and was moved over to third in a ground out from Wong.

Matt Holliday walked to give the Redbirds runners on first and third. Then a scary moment with Allen Craig up to bat, Tim Hudson had a ball get away from him that hit Craig in the helmet. He walked to first, staying in the game. But Oscar Taveras grounded out to second to end the potential rally,

Posey continued to give Lynn trouble in the second with a two-out hit, then going first to third on a hit from Pablo Sandoval, but Lynn got Gregor Blanco to swing and miss.

Oscar Taveras collected his second hit in the bigs, but it was just a lowly single to compare, but the Cardinals failed to bring him around to score.

In the third inning, having thrown 71 pitches, Lynn gave up another 2 runs, giving Joaquin Arias 3 RBIs in just as many innings.
