(KMOV.com) –Dozens of companies will participate in the 9th Annual First District Congressional Career Fair at Harris Stowe University on Monday.
The job fair will run from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. inside the university’s performing arts center, located at 3026 Laclede.
Representatives of more than 100 companies are expected to attend, including Boeing, World Wide Technology and Centene.
“The job market is opening up and we are seeing more companies hire,” said Kelli Bernardi with the St. Louis Agency on Training and Employment (SLATE).
Organizers told News 4 over 5,000 job seekers attended the fair in 2013.
“It can be overwhelming,” Bernardi said. “If there are over 100 employers there and thousands of job seekers, you are going to walk in and think ‘oh where do I start.”
Bernardi said there is something for everyone at the fair regardless of a person’s education or experience. Bernardi recommends job seekers should walk around the entire room once, pick out their 10 favorite job openings, and then speak to those companies first.
“The Boeing Company, GKN aerospace, so there are your manufacturing jobs,” Bernardi said. We also have some I-team, health care companies, retail financial institutions, so it’s a variety of positions that will be available.”
Beth Davis with Clear Channel told News 4 she has been impressed with people who found jobs at the company by attending the fair.
“These people we talk to are people who want a long term career with a company,” Davis said. “We don’t hear from people who say ‘what jobs do you have?’ They really want to work for a company they think is going to grow and that they can grow with.”
Those who plan to attend should dress professionally and bring a resume. For more information, click here.
